Does Medicare Advantage count for CHAMPVA?
Educational information only, not medical, legal, or insurance advice. Confirm with CHAMPVA and your provider. Last verified against VA.gov: October 9, 2026 (VA page updated Aug 12, 2026). Changelog
Yes. VA says a Medicare Advantage plan (also called Part C) meets the requirement to have Medicare Parts A and B, because Advantage plans include Original Medicare.
- Your Medicare Advantage plan pays first. CHAMPVA may then pay costs you still owe.
- Send CHAMPVA your Medicare information with VA Form 10-7959c.
- If your Advantage plan includes drug coverage, that counts as other prescription coverage, so you can’t use Meds by Mail.
- Advantage plans have their own networks and rules. Check whether a provider is in your plan’s network; CHAMPVA itself has no network.
