Does CHAMPVA cover urgent care and telehealth visits?
Educational info, not medical advice. Last verified Oct 11, 2026.
Coverage status: Depends
Short answer: It depends: the CHAMPVA Guidebook doesn’t address urgent care centers or telehealth visits by name, so call CHAMPVA to confirm before you rely on either.
What the Guidebook says
Nothing specific. We checked the CHAMPVA Guidebook and didn’t find “urgent care” or “telehealth” covered or excluded by name. We won’t guess. Call CHAMPVA at 800-733-8387 and ask before you go.
What we do know
- CHAMPVA covers medically necessary care from authorized providers, and there is no CHAMPVA network. Ask the clinic if it accepts CHAMPVA (VA).
- Covered outpatient care (doctor visits, labs, X-rays) costs: When CHAMPVA is primary, you pay the yearly outpatient deductible ($50 per person, $100 per family) and a 25% cost share. When CHAMPVA is secondary, you usually pay nothing. Your family’s costs are capped at $3,000 per calendar year (Guidebook).
- In an emergency, go to the ER or call 911. See ER coverage and costs.
Not sure? Call CHAMPVA at 800-733-8387 (TTY 711), Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–7:30 p.m. ET. The Guidebook says a service listed as covered doesn't guarantee payment. See all CHAMPVA coverage answers.
